Kendall Tavern Inn Bed & Breakfast Scones
2 cups all-purpose flour
3 tablespoons sugar
2 1/4 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup plus 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, cold
3/4 cup milk
Add fruit, chocolate chips & cherries, maple chips, dates, whatever you like.
In a medium bowl, place the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and cut up butter. Cut butter in using a pantry cutter, 2 knives, or your fingers until the butter is the size of peas. Add the milk and mix just until the dough comes together and no lumps remain (add a little more milk if mix is too dry). Use a scone pan or press the dough into a round that is roughly 1 inch thick and cut into wedges, and place on a cookie sheet. Sprinkle with sugar. Bake for 20-25 minutes until scones are lightly browned and a pick comes out clean. Serves 10
This recipe can be doubled or tripled. If not baking immediately leave in refrigerator until ready to bake. Scones can be put in the freezer before baking, just set out for a while to thaw.
